History 2000-2004

2000
After a long break in attending VHF/UHF/SHF contests, we (PA3GFE, PE1OGF, PE1PRG and PA0NZH started again in 2000. We were also about 20 years ago active with the call PI5EHV. Both calls belong to the same station, but the special call sign PI5EHV is no longer allowed to be used in contests.

On 3cm we worked with 100 mW a lot of good DX. Even OK was worked in July.

Worked squares on 3 cm during the contests with 180 mW.

In October the power on 3 cm was increased to 1 Watt. Audio file of PI4TUE (PG5D) on 10 GHz, recorded by PI4ZLD (PE1PFW) at a distance of 111 km and with very poor conditions.

2001-2002
Until mid 2002 PA3GFE, PA5MS (ex PE1OGF), PA9JB (ex PE1PRG), PA0PFW and PG5D (then PA0NZH) operated the station on 2m, 70cm, 23cm, 13cm, 6cm and 3cm. However the QRM level on 2m is very high in the middle of the city. A heavy storm in 2002 damaged our both 2 meter beams and we decided to concentrate our activity on the higher bands while PA5MS and PA9JB intended to start a mobile contest station on 2 meters at a less noisy QTH in the neighbourhood, but these plans have never been finalized and PA9JB sold his mobile shack. Antenna's for the higher bands were mounted and removed every contest by the remaining operators PA3GFE, PA0PFW and PG5D, and often with help of PB2FG. In October 2002 PA3GFE moved to South America (Peru and Bolivia) for a six month journey. With only two operators left an improved permanent antenna setup was highley needed. The PI4TUE group collected money and new antenna's were ordered for 2, 70, 23 and 13.

2003
Operators PA0PFW, PA3GFE and PG5D (then PA0NZH). The new antenna's arrived one week after the March contest. In the March contest only the microwave bands were activated. In May 2003 the 24 GHz station was finished, still meeting problems with stability but worth a first test. In July and Oktober 2003 Martijn PA3GFE joined again the contest group while John PA5MS was a guest operator in September. Oktober gave us a dissaster on 23cm, all three transceivers were damaged by static discharges on the antenna. Lucky enough 13cm survived.

2004
In March we had problems again on 23 cm, now with an oscillating 2C39 PA.

In May this PA was replaced by a MOSFET PA and we were back in the race. On 13cm we increased power to 10 Watt again and more power is waiting.
In the May contest we worked a lot of nice DX on 10 GHz via Rain Scatter. Between 1400 and 1700 UTC the best DX: DF2CK (JO71), OL4A (JO60), DL1RG (JO62), DM2AFN (JO61), OK1VAM/p (JO60), DF0YY (JO62), DL0TUD (JO60), DL7YC (JO62) en DG0RG (JO62). All random. Between 18.00 and 18.30 UTC again Rain Scatter with DX stations DL9MS/p (JO54) and DL5LF (JO54), followed around 19.15 UTC by SK7MW (JO65) and SM7ECM (JO65). The last one was difficult to hear because an unreadable but loud SSB station replied also on our CQ, it took some time before the frequency was clear enough to copy SM7ECM. Surpricing was to hear during a few minutes the CQ of DL0GTH (JO50) via tropo. After a QSO on 3cm a trial on 6cm was not succesfull. On sunday the only Rain Scatter surprice was DF4BNA (JN49).
On the other bands, poor conditions but again DF0TEC/p (JO73) on 23cm was worked again, tnx! On 70cm OL2R (JN89) was really loud, much louder than on 2 meters.
We still have not enough operators to gain high scores on all bands, but we had again a lot of fun. Thanks you all.
